The AnyTone AT-D890UV is a 2m/70cm handheld transceiver for digital DMR radio (compatible with MOTOTRBO Tier 1 and 2). Of course, traditional FM operation is also supported. Unlike many other DMR radios, the AT-D890UV offers true VFO operation, making it far better suited for amateur radio use than many competing DMR devices. Radio amateurs can freely set frequencies and transmission parameters as usual, instead of being limited to pre-programmed memory channels only. Naturally, the AnyTone AT-D890UV also provides memory channels—and plenty of them: 4,000 in total. However, the user is not restricted to pre-programmed channels alone. Another important difference compared to many DMR radios is the ability to change most (though unfortunately not all) parameters directly on the device. This means that minor adjustments do not always require connection to a computer. Configuration of all parameters (such as DMR ID or satellite data), however, is only possible via the appropriate PC software.
The AT-D890UV is the successor model to the popular D878UV series. New features of this device include the crossband repeater (D-D, A-D, D-A, A-A) and the ability to receive VHF aeronautical radio in AM. As already known from the AT-D168UV, the D890UV offers the option of tracking satellites, including automatic frequency tracking. A constantly updated list also shows the upcoming satellite passes.
A special (and rare) highlight: the radio supports full-duplex crossband operation (FM). While transmitting on the 2m band, the receiver on the 70cm band remains active and is not muted.
The overall feature set of the D890UV is very extensive. A total of 4,000 channels can be stored (digital and analog, mixed operation supported). Up to 10,000 talkgroups can be configured, and the contact list can hold up to 500,000 entries. In analog mode, features such as DTMF, CTCSS and DCS are supported, as well as two-tone and five-tone signaling. A 1750 Hz tone burst is also available. Five keys on the transceiver can be freely assigned with user-defined functions, allowing each operator to tailor the radio to personal preferences. The 1.77" color display offers adjustable backlight levels and remains clearly readable even in bright sunlight at maximum brightness. To conserve power, the display can be set to dim after an adjustable time.
Another noteworthy feature is the ability to store multiple DMR IDs. This allows the radio to be used, for example, in a professional radio environment with one ID and later in amateur radio service with another. It is also possible for multiple family members to share a single device. The AnyTone AT-D890UV is equipped with a GPS receiver, enabling position data transmission via radio (DMR-APRS and FM-APRS). Roaming—the automatic selection of a reachable repeater based on a predefined list or GPS position—is of course also supported.
